In constructing the Northside Plaza shopping center, Cristom was involved in the development and design which presented the first obstacle: A street that existed on the city’s plan but had never been built. The street had to be “demapped” from the street plan before construction could begin. An additional challenge presented itself later in the process: the soil characteristics at the rear of the shopping center were such that the rear of the building had to be constructed on piles.
